Il Glacier National Park

We slept in Whitefish last night. Today we rented a car and drove it through the Glacier National Park in Montana. They would not allow vehicles longer than 21 feet to use the road and our RV is 29 feet long so we had to leave it behind and rent the car. The National Park is extremely beautiful. The Going to the Sun Road starts with a very beautiful alpine lake called McDonald’s Lake. We drove all the way up to Logan’s Pass and from the Visitor’s Centre we took a hike for a couple of miles up to the Hidden Lake. It was quite spectacular. The mountains there are higher than 7,000 feet and we saw some mountain goats. They were white and looked a bit like the centaurs in the Harry Potter movies. There are supposed to be grizzly bears there too, but fortunately we didn’t see any of them. This was the continental divide where water flowing down one side flows into the Atlantic Ocean and down another it flows into the Pacific and that flowing north flows into the Arctic Ocean.
Then we drove out of the other side of the Park and again the scenery was stunning. The east side of the Park was our favourite part. St Mary’s Lake has to be seen to be believed. We passed at just about sundown and wow!
We drove out of the park and on to the Blackfoot Tribe Indian Reservation. Here, we saw three black bears (not all together, like in Goldilocks) but separately, along the side of the road. They didn’t seem very interested in the traffic that was passing but more in what they were eating.
We have seen a lot of different kinds of deer, elk, mountain goats, etc.
We slept at Glacier Campground near the park entrance and it rained all night. This morning it was dark and cold when we got up.
